Every day we pull in the latest rainfall over Greater Accra — not just today's, but the two weeks before it too.

How we predict flooding
Flooding isn't about today's rain. It's about the rain before it.
Here's the honest, plain-language version of how ARK gets to a number.
1. The ground fills up like a bucket
One storm rarely floods Accra on its own. It's rain on top of rain — the ground fills up over days, and once it's full, even a small shower overflows it. So we track today's rainfall and the two weeks before.
2. We already know where water struggles
Low-lying land, steep or flat ground, distance from drains and the coast, how much concrete covers an area — these don't change day to day, so we've mapped them once, in detail, for all of Greater Accra.
3. We do the math every morning
We combine the rain pattern with the terrain, run it through a model trained on real past Accra floods, and turn the result into a plain colour and a percentage.
4. We stay honest about uncertainty
This is a forecast, not a promise. We show you the odds, tell you when it was last updated, and update again tomorrow.
